Automail 101  

As I am freakin' excited about the near completion of my automail, I decided to dedicate an entire post to it. 'Cause I'm cool like that.

  • I am not a mechanic. The tech-whore in me would like to think so, but this is not the case. But [info]yuki_wa is. Hand him a piece of wire and you'll soon have an exact replica of the Eiffel Tower, complete with shading, tourists, and assorted wildlife. This is why he is making my arm... talk about sex on a stick!

  • Materials needed for our project were/are currently Scissors, pen/pencil, ruler, Elmers glue, Craft foam glue, fabric tac, craft foam (20 pieces), blow dryer, Future floor finish, Metallic sterling silver acrylic paint, charcoal acrylic paint, netted backing, spirit gum & remover. Still need Clear coat finish, Black opera glove, clear plastic strap. All this aquired so far cost about $34-5 total. Not bad considering that some people want well over $100 to craft you a metal arm. If you counted the gas, maybe 5 extra.

  • Steps used so far - Cleverly aquired patterns, cut and fit to my specifications. Rounded and shaped it to the desired arrangement and blow dryed to make the foam give a little, then cooled to keep the form. Minor details glued on, then treated with a water/glue mix for later paint application. Glue treated sveral times. Continually strapped over my arm and shoulder to ensure proper fitting. Several coats of paint, let dry, then several more coats, followed by a long pause of watching TV. Then once paint is completely dry, applied the floor polish for maximum shininess. Another couple coats of paint/floor polish later, here we are.

  • Future steps - Weathering, attach to glove, attach clear snap from front to back.

    And there is it is. Instant automail without the actual involvement of metal. This has been extremely dorm room friendly, as we have no other place to do it. Haven't actually seen the top of my desk in a week... but who needs to do homework when you've got pure polished sex in front of you? Go figure.

    I can't wait until this thing is done. Of course then Taisa will have to modify my shirt to show off my arm, but that's another story.  ^_-'

    Oh it is sexy... almost lickably so. Heh, I'll have to watch myself around the Semi then, lest I get, dare I say, man-handled? <3

    ohhhh but later, I'll have to show you this Ed cosplayer from Mechacon, he was almost as good as you, unfortunately, he had a Winry, I didn't glomp him... and he wasn't as pretty as you are hehe >_> but he had the natural hair so it reminded me of you!!!
